Title: The American Civil War

Grade Level(s): 8th Grade Social Studies

Description:
The display board is an interactive board in which students match picture puzzles to a topic or aspect of the American Civil War. Students are placed into groups of 2 or 3 students and given a box. They complete the “Thinking Outside the Box” activity, in which they identify a specific aspect of the American Civil War. There are 12 groups and 12 different topics: African-Americans, Prisons/Prisoners, Forts, Battlefields, Transportation, The Arts, Weaponry, Women, Union Soldiers/Officers, Confederate Soldiers/Officers, Medical, and Children.
Once students have identified their group’s topic, they then create a presentation (PowerPoint or MovieMaker) on that topic using primary sources from the Library of Congress or other sources.
